Transitioning from the Scouting World into the Work World was not as easy as some think. I was still in Scouts as a leader until I was 24 years old. When I was 17 I worked my first real job at Scout Camp for the entire summer that year. Camp was fun and I very much enjoyed teaching younger scouts in the first years class. The following fall I received my Eagle Scout and my parents gave me two choices; Go to college or get a job by the spring. I also would be turning 18 the following spring. As per my choices I really did not enjoy school even though I was homeschooled my entire life, so I chose job. But, I didn't want any old job. My graduation came faster than I thought it would. It was a great party with all my church family and a few friends stopped by. Many of the moms thought it would be okay to talk to me and try and pressure me into jobs. "Just work at McDonald's.", they would say. I knew that working fast food would be what I call a "stuck job". My sister lived in NY at the time and she worked at Burger King. I knew my capabilities and knew I could do better. Soon my Pastor came to me a few weeks later and said, "Hey David I have a job for you if you are interested. You can come work for me and deliver Phone Books." Doing the phone book delivery taught me many things such as face to face interaction, being professional, and being time responsible. I think it was a great first job. That job was my second job on my resume and I still use the skills today in most other things I do.
